Chairman Wang Ping of Tourism Chamber Participated the 15th WTO Conference as Observer, Introducing Vigorous Chinese Non-Public Tourism Economy

The 15th WTO Conference was held during 17th to 24th, October, 2003 in Beijing. This world largest tourism organization for the first time organized its important meeting in China. Chinese government attached great importance to the conference. Premier Wen Jiabao pointed out at the opening ceremony which was held at the People’s Hall that China will develop tourism into an essential industry of national economy. Tourism Chamber Chairman Wang Ping, first Vice Chairman Wang Mingang, Vice Chairman Mu Min and General secretary Wang Yongqiang accepted the invitation of WTO General secretary Francesco Franchali to participate the conference as observers. This is the first time for the non-public tourism chamber to attend world tourism conference. The target of WTO is governments. Each country has only five people participated in, but WTO permitted non-governmental organization, the chamber to join the meeting. Such action shows the importance that the world attached to Chinese fast developing non-public tourism economy.

On 19th, October, 2003, Chairman Wang Ping on the conference called WTO General secretary Francesco Franchali and introduced him the situation of the chamber and Chinese non-public tourism enterprises. Chairman Wang Ping first expressed gratitude to him for his invitation. She said that such move showed the world largest tourism organization cared for Chinese tourism. She also introduced that in China tourism has become a new industry. The government encourages different kinds of ownership to participate in it. Non-public tourism economy now is an important force in tourism development. Mr. General Secretary was pleased to have Chinese non-public tourism organization to join the conference. He asked about the chamber and indicated that Chinese tourism would have great improvement and non-public economy would play crucial role in the process.

On the same day, Chairman Wang Ping also called Madam Fréchette, Vice General secretary of UN and introduced her about Chinese private economy. Madam Fréchette expressed that she is very concerned about Chinese tourism, especially private and small and medium-sized tourism enterprises. She hopes that the chamber can care for and solve tourism industry and reduce poverty. She congratulated the establishment of Tourism Chamber and said that she was very glad to see representatives from the chamber advocating themselves on the conference. She was willing to actively support the work of the chamber.
