10th Macao International Trade & Investment Fair (MIF)

Initiated by the Chamber of Tourism, Collective Debut of Fourteen Chambers of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce at 10th Macao International Trade & Investment Fair (MIF)

Chambers of the All-China Federation of Industry and CommerceACFICmade their first joint appearance in Macao.

The booth of Chamber of Tourism received praises from visitors.

Senior Vice President Hu Deping attended the opening ceremony as well as other major activities during MIF.

Senior Vice President Hu Deping accompanied Chief Executive of Macao SAR, Mr Edmund Ho, to visit the ACFIC booth and paid special attention to the booth of Chamber of Tourism.

Senior Vice President Hu Deping, Vice President Sun Xiaohua and all the principals of the participating Chambers paid friendly visit to Ma Wanqi, Vice President of CPPCC.

The Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute expressed wish to cooperate with ACFIC.

 

The 10th MIF with the aim for promoting regional cooperation and developing pluralistic economy was held in Macao from 20 to 23 Oct 2005. There were over 120 economic and trade delegations from more than 30 countries and regions attending the Fair, boasting the biggest scale in its history. Fourteen Chambers of ACFIC made their first joint appearance at the Fair and became one of the major features of the Fair.

 

Among all the themed exhibiting areas such as “Macao Commodity Exhibiting Area”, “Portuguese National Exhibiting Area” and so on, the exhibiting area of ACFIC took up the most attractive site. The twenty booths of the fourteen Chambers had each projected its unique feature.  The fourteen Chambers included  Chamber of Jewelry & Precious Metals Industry, Chamber of Cosmetics and Beauty Products, Chamber of Aquatic Products, All China Bakery Association, Chamber of Hardware Products, Chamber of Real Estate, Chamber of Antiques, Chamber of Automobile and Motorcycle Components, China Furniture & Decoration Chamber , China Book Sellers & Publishers Association, China Chamber of Petroleum Industry, Chamber of Stone Materials, Chamber of Kitchen Utilities and Chamber of Tourism. This was the first collective debut of the Chambers of ACFIC since their formation. The debut was both an epitome of the rapid development of China’s private economies and an opportunity for promoting the respective industries. 

 

The exhibiting area of Chamber of Tourism drawn the most attention from visitors as compared to the exhibiting areas of the other Chambers. It  has taken up five standard booths and was  redesigned to provide  spacious room for better exhibition and presentation of the Chamber.

 

The concept of “Pan-tourism” advocated by the Chamber of Tourism had been demonstrated through the exhibition of tangible products at the booth. In order to promote the industrial characteristic  members of the Chamber and Hong Kong Silk Road Travel Company, who manned the booth, introduced to customers and visitors the various tour routes to Northwestern  China, and offered them with respective posters and brochures as supplement.  As a standing member of the Chamber, Hubei East Star Group headed by its CEO Lan Shili made a comprehensive promotion of the tourism resources and tour routes in Hubei province. Led by Vice President of the Chamber, Hao Xukuan, General Manager of Waytex Group  displayed its core products such as cashmere items  and raw materials at the booth, attracting many women visitors. Mr Hao also promoted it’s the Grassland Golf Resort and red wine from Inner Mongolia to the visitors. 

 

The Chamber had made careful preparation for the Fair.  It has sent copies of two issues of its Magazine recording the major activities of the Chamber to the Fair from Beijing in advance, and they managed to finalize and compile the new issue and brought it to the Fair. Moreover, they also prepared a single-paged introduction  of the Chamber in both Chinese and English for distribution at the Fair. In addition, several thousand of multi-functional pens with Logo of the Chamber were prepared as gifts to the visitors. Senior Vice President Peter Wong appointed a designer from Hong Kong to take charge of the overall design of the exhibition booths. Thanks to the efforts of all parties, the exhibiting area of the Chamber of Tourism received praises from many visitors, and all 1,300 copies of the Chamber’s Magazine were distributed. Many travelers were attracted by the tour information presented by the Silk Road Travel Company and sought further travel details from the Company. This platform for foreign exchange and promotion was well received by its Members.

 

In the morning of Oct 20th, Mr. Edmund Ho, Chief Executive of Macao SAR, together with Hu Deping, Senior Vice President of ACFIC, Bai Zhijian, Director General of Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macao SAR, Liao Xiaoqi, Vice Minister of Commerce of PRC, Sun Yafu, Vice Director General of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, and Tan Boyuan Secretary for Economy and Finance of Macao SAR, and other leaders, officiatedthe opening ceremony of 10th MIF. Before the opening ceremony, Hu accompanied Ho to visit the exhibiting areas of the ACFIC Chambers. Hu introduced each Chamber to Ho.  At the exhibiting area of the Chamber of Tourism, Hu explained to Ho the pictures and the exhibits. President Wang Ping introduced to Ho about the duties and scope of services of the Chamber of Tourism. Chief Executive Ho and Senior Vice President Hu, together with Wang Ping, Hao Xukuan and other leaders took a picture in front of the booth.

 

It was a fine day in Macao on Oct 21. In the morning, Senior Vice President Hu Deping, Vice President Sun Xiaohua, Vice Director Zhao Yuelun as well as all the major principals of each participating Chamber paid a visit to Ma Wanqi, Vice President of CPPCC and a respecting state leader, at his home.

 

The 86-year-old Vice President Ma Wanqi in a pale-colored  Chinese suit, welcome the guests with great pleasure . Vice President Ma was in good health and quick in thought. During the visit, Ma briefly reviewed the Chinese contemporary history, expressed his happiness to the successful implementation of “One country, two systems” in Macao and the building of a harmonious society, and reminded that people should think of dangers in time of peace. No matter how fast the world changes, people should keep sober mind and do their own business well. Hu Deping thanked Ma for his sincere and earnest edification. He expressed that, the Fifth Plenary Session of the Sixteenth Congress of CPC had outlined the  blueprint for the future development, namely all Chinese people should, under the leadership of the Central Party Committee headed by President Hu Jintao, adhere to the scientific concept of development and building a harmonious society, so as to accelerate the development of private economy. He also proposed all attendees to remember Ma’s words and that special day.

 

After the meeting, Macao Chamber of Commerce hosted a banquet for the delegation headed by Senior Vice President Hu Deping. Ma Wanqi’s son Ma Youli, Vice President of ACFIC, together with his wife, celebrities from Macao industry and commerce community, and representatives of each Chamber gathered to talk about cooperation and development.

 

During the stay in Macao, Senior Vice President Hu Deping participated in the “Forum on International Trade and Foreign Direct Investment 2005” which was sponsored by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute and co-sponsored by ACFIC and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. During the Forum, Hu Deping, together with Silver Minister of Economic Growth and Competition of Cape Verde, Fernando Minister of Industry and Trade of Mozambique, and Wang Jinzhen Assistant to President of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, addressed as guest speakers. 

 

Senior Vice President Hu Deping, Vice President Sun Xiaohua, and Lee Beng Hong Director of Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute attended the presentation session of the fourteen Chambers of ACFIC during the Fair. ective Chamber to the media and foreign customers. This was the first joint promotion effort of the Chambers at an international event. And the Chambers had gained rich experience for future promotion.

 

Another activity supported by ACFIC during the Fair was the “Forum of the Youth from China mainland, China Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao”. It was co-sponsored by the Young Entrepreneur Association of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, as well as ACFIC.  The Forum provided a good platform for discussing the current issues in the Region. Wang Ping, President of the ACFIC Chamber of Tourism, gave a speech on “Situations created by the  Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge”,. The Forum was conducted in an interactive format, where the audience were invited to disucss with the speaker after the speaker delievered on a his/her speech on a given topic.. President Wang Ping talked about the political and economic significance of the bridge, the ecological concept adopted for the construction of the bridge, as well as the new form of culture and tourism resulted from the bridge. She brought up  the idea of “building new cultural heritage”, which was  mentioned in the first time in all discussions about the construction of the bridge in the past two decades.  All participants expressed great concern to her idea and it has led to a series of heated debates on the topic..

 

Senior Vice President Hu Deping and Vice President Sun Xiaohua were present at the Forum.

 

Mr Lee Beng Hong, Director of Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute expressed his gratitude towards ACFIC for its support to the Fair, and hoped to keep close working relationship with the Federation.

 

ACFIC leaders have shown great support to MIF. Vice President Zhang Longzhi edited the related conference documents in person. Senior Vice President Hu Deping and Vice President Sun Xiaohua attended the whole Fair. All their efforts had greatly encouraged the fourteen-particiating Chambers. The Member Department of ACFIC had also exerted all efforts to organize its members to participate at the Fair . The Chamber of Tourism, being the initiator of the activity, had contributed to ensure the success of  the exhibition of ACFIC at MIF.  Mr. Peter Wong, Senior Vice President and Ms Pansy Ho Vice President of the Chamber of Tourism had given great support in terms of capital, resources, manpower and ideas, in realizing the exhibition.
